Exploring (en)Visionography | Gwinnett Fine Art Photographer

Last week another photographer posted in the Atlanta Photographer's Guild about a newer exploration in black and white fine art photography called (en)Visionography.  The theory was created (and trademarked) by Julia Anna Godpodarou and while her methods encourage using the DxO software, I used Photoshop and Lightroom in my first attempt.  She also uses architecture as her subject, other photographers have used portraits and landscapes.  Basically, the theory takes the art past traditional photography to truly reflect the artist's vision. In her words,

In the digital era “vision” replaces “light” in writing, or rather in re-writing the image so it reaches a stage where it matches the idea the photographer started with, his VISION. The final image can now get much closer to what the artist ENVISIONS. Therefore (en)Visionography is a more suited name for creating photographs than “photography”.

There are times when I take an image and know I love what I'm seeing, but the original photograph and edit just don't reflect what I was feeling at the time. Thus, I want to explore this new technique to truly express that vision. When I first heard of it, I thought immediately of this image of a tree on the island of Oahu, just outside of Honolulu.  I was with my father in 2007 and the way the light was hitting the tree and how the clouds behind it contrasted against the bare branches just really hit me as oddly beautiful in a chaotic way. Something so lifeless among the jungle on the island was such a contrast and reflected how I was feeling at the time.  I tend to feel out of place, like I don't belong. People around me seem to be so normal, so at ease in the world, and I feel like I struggle to fit in.

There are other images I want to explore and I don't think I'm done with this one, but I like how this goes beyond traditional black and white to more deeply reflect the artist's vision.  Here is my first attempt with the original unedited photo, my color edit, my first B&W edit and then my current attempt at (en)Visionography:
